Black History Month
DE&I
MLK Jr. Poster

Case Study
This was a project for our DE&I group at our local site. One of our chair members sat with me to tell me what she envisioned and how she wanted the posters to be presented. I was able to breathe life into her idea and bring it to fruition. This is one of a 22-part series of images that highlighted Black History Month heroes who either helped pave the way or were still making a big impact. The goal was to create posters that can both be printed, sent out to the site via email, placed in our CEC Slack channel, and posted on our social media sites.
The Client: Charleston DE&I Chapter
The client wanted to create a series of posters that highlighted individuals who helped pave the way and made big impacts in civil reform and equal rights.
Target Audience:
The target audience is individuals that are employed in the Charleston CEC. They range in age from 18-65. There are multiple lines of business within the CEC and roles range from Frontline Employee to Sr. Site Director.
The Problem: The employees having started to return back to the site after 2 years of a pandemic, we were tasked with finding the best way to showcase people important to the movement for Black History Month.
Media Pieces:
-
22 posters to be printed for 2x3 snap frames to be set up down the main CEC hall.
-
22 digital copies of posters for emailing to the site, posting on social media, and posting in the CEC Slack channel.
-
Interactive PDF to go along with a scavenger hunt game to go along with BHM celebrations and activities. There were prizes given away to the individuals who scored 100% on a included quiz.
Design Process:
We wanted the printed posters to run along the main CEC hall so employees could stop and read through on their breaks/lunch. We also knew that there were still people who were primarily working from home, and wanted to also ensure they could see the information, so we created digital versions that were emailed to the site, posted on our social media, and posted in the CEC Slack channel. I incorporated the main colors for BHM and created a logo that could be used with all related content. I also included the organizations tagline for that year at the bottom of the design and kept within branding guidelines.
